An SRT file stores numbered subtitle cues, their start and end times, and the words to display. Open Extract text, upload audio or a video with sound, select the spoken language, review the transcript and save corrections before downloading SRT. The recording itself is not re-encoded by this workflow.
Read the cue structure
Each cue has an increasing number, a time range using hours:minutes:seconds,milliseconds, and one or more text lines. A blank line separates cues. The example below is invented format sample text, not a transcription benchmark or a downloadable customer recording.
Generate SRT from your recording
Sign in with Google, open Extract text and upload MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, FLAC, OGG, MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV. The source must contain sound and fit within 100 MB and 10 minutes. Video transcription reads the soundtrack. It does not read subtitles printed into the picture.
Edit the transcript and subtitle timestamps
Compare the words with the audio and correct names and punctuation. Keep times inside the recording and in order, with the end after the start. Save before downloading. This editor reviews captions generated from your uploaded recording. For an existing SRT or VTT file, use SRT and VTT subtitle editor in Media tools.
Choose SRT, TXT or JSON for the next step
Use SRT when another editor or player needs timed subtitles. Choose TXT for the words without cue formatting, or JSON for structured line data. SRT does not include caption animation or a video picture. Use Edit subtitles for a rendered MP4 that keeps your original footage.
Check playback and keep a local copy
Load the subtitle file alongside the intended video and check an early and a late sentence. Text accuracy and timing accuracy are separate checks. The transcription workflow keeps the original language. Media tools offer SRT/VTT conversion and experimental English speech translation; speaker labels and ASS export are not supported. Private results expire after 14 days, so download the files you need.
A two-cue SRT example
1 00:00:01,250 --> 00:00:03,900 Welcome to the recording. 2 00:00:04,000 --> 00:00:06,500 Check the words before sharing.
Common questions
Does downloading SRT add subtitles to the video image?
No. SRT is a separate file. A player must load it, or an editor must render it into the video. Edit subtitles can render its reviewed draft as MP4.
Can I use an online SRT editor for a file I already have?
Yes. In Media tools, open SRT and VTT subtitle editor, import a UTF-8 file, correct its text or timestamps, shift all cues if needed, and export SRT, VTT or TXT. To put those subtitles onto footage, use Add SRT subtitles to video.
