A map video animates places, routes and a camera over a map. This module combines the map-motion animation engine with MapLibre and OpenFreeMap by default: 11 vector themes and seven story modes work without a Maps API key. Google Maps is optional for satellite, hybrid and terrain styles. Video export downloads a bounded map area, then renders from a local cache with visible map-data attribution.

A 60-second original demonstration of a Paris–Rome–Athens map animation with real OpenFreeMap vector maps, flight arcs, distance counter and original instrumental music. The arc is illustrative, not a recorded flight.
Public demo: example city coordinates, English map labels and original instrumental music. No user uploads. The video retains OpenFreeMap, OpenMapTiles and OpenStreetMap attribution.

Practical use cases
How do I make a travel route video?
Add places in order, choose a flight arc or a trip, then select camera and style settings. Use a GPS track if you need the recorded path instead of an illustrative connection.
Google road planning requires the corresponding service configuration and may not cover every travel mode in every country.
Can I export a satellite map video?
Satellite and hybrid styles use Google Maps imagery when configured. The video keeps Google’s original map attribution visible.
The free vector option does not contain satellite imagery. Check Google imagery usage rules for the purpose of your finished video.
How do I make a GPX route animation for a walking or cycling recap?
Upload your recorded GPX, choose Route journey, select a walk or bike icon and enable camera follow. Preview the beginning and end, add an allowed soundtrack and download the MP4.
The file must contain a readable GPS path. An elevation profile needs height samples; this is a video export, not live navigation.

Supported formats
Enter WGS-84 longitude and latitude, search with configured Google Maps services, or upload GPX / GeoJSON up to 2 MB. Export H.264 MP4 in 9:16, 16:9 or 1:1, at 720p or 1080p and 24 or 30 fps.
How it works
1. Choose places and a story
Add up to 20 stops, choose location reveal, pins, flight, route, trip, hub or region highlight. Check searched places before generating.
2. Style the map and camera
Choose standard, dark, journal, neon or blueprint vector styles; satellite and terrain require optional Google Maps configuration. Set route color, vehicle, camera follow, zoom, overview and an optional soundtrack.
3. Preview and export privately
Preview the animation, then generate an 8–90 second MP4. Sign in with Google and download the result within 24 hours.
Is it right for you?
Good fit
- Travel recaps with illustrative flight arcs between cities
- Turning your own walking, cycling or driving GPX into a map video
- Location reveals, multi-stop journeys and supplied region outlines
Not a good fit
- Live navigation, traffic predictions or verified flight histories
- Free satellite photography or automatic administrative boundaries
- Inferring destinations or GPS tracks from an audio recording
Limits and privacy
Google sign-in required; shared generation and hourly limits apply. Free vector maps require no Maps API key. Place search, Google imagery and road planning depend on optional Google Maps services. The selected map provider receives requests for the displayed area. Offline export is limited to 1,500 tiles and 45 MB per video; broader routes may need a lower zoom or self-hosted map data. Project files are private to the account owner and site administrators; finished files expire after 24 hours. Map previews expire after 30 minutes.
What to check before sharing
Great-circle flight arcs and simple stop connections are illustrations, not actual traveled routes. GPX tracks retain the uploaded geometry; elevation charts require elevation values in the file. Region highlights require user-supplied Polygon GeoJSON. No road route, terrain height or administrative boundary is invented. OpenStreetMap and OpenMapTiles attribution remains visible in free-map videos. Optional Google imagery retains Google attribution and follows its usage terms. Vector basemap labels currently prefer English with local names as fallback. This version does not export photorealistic 3D terrain or Street View.
Common questions
Can I use a GPX track?
Yes. Upload a WGS-84 GPX track or LineString GeoJSON. Its path replaces the illustrative stop connections. Elevation is shown only when the file provides valid heights.
Can I create map videos without an API key?
Yes. The default MapLibre and OpenFreeMap option uses real vector maps without a Maps API key or billing account. It supports coordinates, flight arcs and uploaded GPX or GeoJSON. Google Maps remains an optional provider for satellite imagery, place search and road planning.
Can I add my own music?
Yes. Upload an audio file or a video soundtrack; it repeats and fades to the map video duration. If no file is uploaded, optional original instrumental music can be synthesized locally.
Are my routes public examples?
No. Map projects require Google sign-in and remain private to your account and authenticated site administrators. They are not added to the public example gallery.
How do I turn a GPX file into MP4?
Choose the free map source and Route journey, upload a GPX up to 2 MB, check the path and labels, then choose camera, music and export settings. The uploaded track replaces the illustrative stop connections. Finished projects are private and expire after 24 hours.
Do free map videos keep attribution?
Yes. Free exports keep OpenFreeMap, OpenMapTiles and OpenStreetMap credits visible. Keep those credits when sharing or editing the video. The public map service has download limits and no availability guarantee.
