WEBVTT

00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:00.940
Salve settled upon

00:00:00.940 --> 00:00:01.540
Blucher's

00:00:01.540 --> 00:00:02.560
countenance, like a

00:00:02.560 --> 00:00:03.720
cloud, and he rose

00:00:03.720 --> 00:00:04.340
up and said,

00:00:05.120 --> 00:00:05.640
"'Landlord,

00:00:06.180 --> 00:00:07.840
this is a low mean

00:00:07.840 --> 00:00:09.080
swindle, and I'll

00:00:09.080 --> 00:00:10.480
never, never stand

00:00:10.480 --> 00:00:10.680
it.

00:00:11.160 --> 00:00:11.900
Here's a hundred

00:00:11.900 --> 00:00:12.740
and fifty dollars,

00:00:12.980 --> 00:00:14.200
sir, and it's all

00:00:14.200 --> 00:00:14.840
you'll get.

00:00:15.180 --> 00:00:16.360
I'll swim in blood

00:00:16.360 --> 00:00:17.420
before I'll pay a

00:00:17.420 --> 00:00:18.920
cent more.' Our

00:00:18.920 --> 00:00:20.640
spirits rose, and

00:00:20.640 --> 00:00:21.160
the landlords

00:00:21.160 --> 00:00:22.540
fell—at least we

00:00:22.540 --> 00:00:23.060
thought so.

00:00:23.440 --> 00:00:24.520
He was confused at

00:00:24.520 --> 00:00:24.900
any rate,

00:00:25.320 --> 00:00:26.380
notwithstanding he

00:00:26.380 --> 00:00:27.220
had not understood

00:00:27.220 --> 00:00:28.000
a word that had

00:00:28.000 --> 00:00:28.440
been said.

00:00:28.940 --> 00:00:29.920
He glanced from the

00:00:29.920 --> 00:00:30.840
little pile of gold

00:00:30.840 --> 00:00:32.220
pieces to Bluker's

00:00:32.220 --> 00:00:33.400
several times, and

00:00:33.400 --> 00:00:34.120
then went out.

00:00:34.740 --> 00:00:35.300
He must have

00:00:35.300 --> 00:00:36.120
visited an American

00:00:36.120 --> 00:00:36.920
for when he

00:00:36.920 --> 00:00:37.860
returned, he

00:00:37.860 --> 00:00:38.640
brought back his

00:00:38.640 --> 00:00:39.500
bill translated

00:00:39.500 --> 00:00:40.420
into a language

00:00:40.420 --> 00:00:41.140
that a Christian

00:00:41.140 --> 00:00:41.940
could understand.

00:00:42.520 --> 00:00:42.780
Thus.

00:00:43.380 --> 00:00:44.380
Ten dinners, six

00:00:44.380 --> 00:00:45.580
thousand rays, or

00:00:45.580 --> 00:00:46.720
six dollars.

00:00:47.340 --> 00:00:47.840
Twenty -five

00:00:47.840 --> 00:00:48.640
cigars, twenty

00:00:48.640 --> 00:00:49.580
-five hundred rays,

00:00:50.060 --> 00:00:51.120
two dollars and

00:00:51.120 --> 00:00:52.540
fifty cents, eleven

00:00:52.540 --> 00:00:53.460
bottles of wine,

00:00:53.660 --> 00:00:54.440
thirteen thousand

00:00:54.440 --> 00:00:55.300
two hundred rays,

00:00:55.640 --> 00:00:56.900
or thirteen dollars

00:00:56.900 --> 00:00:57.700
and twenty cents,

00:00:58.280 --> 00:00:59.140
total twenty -one

00:00:59.140 --> 00:00:59.920
thousand seven

00:00:59.920 --> 00:01:01.120
hundred rays, or

00:01:01.120 --> 00:01:02.440
twenty -one dollars

00:01:02.440 --> 00:01:03.700
and seventy cents.

00:01:04.580 --> 00:01:05.060
Happiness.

00:01:05.480 --> 00:01:05.700
Rain.
